How It All Started!
Fox Hill Adventures was created
by owner and tour guide
Todd Maki.
Todd was lucky to grow up in the Lake Superior region of
the Midwest with so much natural beauty, and outdoor recreation
available right outside his backdoor!
He fell in love with nature and wildlife and went on to pursue
a career in zoology and wildlife management.
After 20+ years of moving around the U.S. working in
AZA accredited zoos, and living abroad in Africa researching
giraffe & elephants, Todd found himself back visiting his hometown of Ironwood, Michigan.
He enjoyed reconnecting with the Northwoods
so much he decided to stick around and began looking
for an outdoor recreation tour guiding position for the summer.
Todd had worked for Earthwatch while in Africa,
and the University of Wisconsin-Stout Outdoor Recreation Program
as a guide in the past, and he was interested in doing this again.
Unfortunately,
he couldn’t find what he was looking for??
While in Africa, there were many touring companies that provided
overland camping trips, exploring the different natural landmarks,
parks, and wildlife of the African landscape.
There wasn’t anything like this in the Midwest,
so Todd decided to create Fox Hill Adventures LLC,
and bring this same type of experience and opportunity
to the Great Lakes!
Todd has extensively Explored the Upper Peninsula of Michigan,
Northern Wisconsin, and Minnesota’s North Shore
of Lake Superior!
He loves camping, hiking and biking the trails and backroads,
Discovering waterfalls,
kayaking and canoeing the rivers and lake shores,
and Embracing the tranquility,
beauty, and solitude of the Northwoods.
He Now Wants to Share Some of His Favorite
Midwest Adventures with You!
